We all know that Porsche cars come from a rich heritage of motor racing and performance vehicles. However, these cars aren't just about speed, and possess a well-tuned blend of balance, handling, and drivability. That said, when you do own a Porsche, especially a sports model like a Porsche 911, Cayman, or Boxster, it's nice to be able to activate launch control once in awhile and experience the full capabilities of your Porsche. So here's a quick guide on what to do with your left foot, and when to release the brake pedal during launch control. Enjoy!
Preparing the Vehicle
Before you can activate launch control in a Porsche, there are some steps that need to be taken in order to set up the vehicle. First, make sure that the transmission is placed in manual mode. You should also depress the brake pedal completely and place the engine revs at 5500 RPM. This can be done by pressing down on the gas pedal until 5500 RPMs is reached, then releasing it.
Activating Launch Control
Once you've set up your vehicle for launch control, it's time to actually activate it. To do so, keep the brake pedal depressed and press down on the accelerator all the way until the RPMs reach 5500 again. Now press and hold both pedals down simultaneously - this is when launch control will be activated! The engine will now rev at 5000 RPM while preventing excess wheel spin; this gives you optimal acceleration as soon as you let go of the brake pedal.
Enjoying Launch Control
Now that launch control has been activated in your Porsche, you're ready to take advantage of its features! All you have to do is release your foot from the brake pedal and allow the car to accelerate forward – thanks to launch control, you'll experience maximum acceleration without any wheel spin or slipping. It's important to note that engaging launch control too frequently could damage your engine or clutch, so use it sparingly for best results!
