2023 MINI Electric Singapore Review - Resolute Edition

The MINI Electric Resolute Edition is the latest MINI SE of the MINI Electric, packing the same 181 bhp, 270Nm of torque, and 211 litres of boot space as the original MINI Electric. Aside from the special edition colour way, the Resolute Edition also features edition specific trim detailing found on the bonnet, door sills, and steering wheel, the Resolute Edition features the same infotainment system, instrument cluster, air conditioning controls, and front grille as the MINI Electric.

Stylish as Always

There are some that say that the MINI Cooper is the ugliest car in the world - and while beauty is often subjective and lies in the eye of the beholder, it is safe to say that MINIs in general are among some of the most iconic cars in history. Through the years, MINI has successfully retained their iconic design DNA, while simultaneously blending in modern technologies that keep pace with the needs of the modern consumer. It is no surprise then, that the Resolute Edition of the MINI Electric is able to look this good without compromising too much of its design DNA.

In its launch colour, the Resolute Edition features a Rebel Green base colour with Resolute Bronze trim, and is accented further with a Pepper White roof and side view mirror caps. Everything looks coherently stylish, and the 17-inch Electric Collection wheels are a joy to look at, featuring an asymmetrical design and some trippy looking machined textures. However, as much as I like the way the car looks, I would opt for 18-inch bronze rims instead.

Great Handling & Performance

Weighing in at 1440kg, the MINI Electric Resolute is actually less than 100kg heavier than the petrol powered MINI Cooper S 5-door, which is commendable if you consider the extra weight of batteries that an EV has to carry. As such, the car hasn't lost much of the sharpness you would expect from a MINI - handling and road feel are still extremely confidence inducing for the driver who wants to chuck this road going electric go-kart around town.

Power in the MINI Electric is also abundant, clocking 7.3 seconds from 0 - 100 km/h, thanks to 181 bhp on tap and 270 Nm of torque, derived from a 32.64 kWh battery pack. What this means for the consumer is that you can still have copious amounts of fun, without the guilt of burning unnecessary fuel while doing it. Then again, I've never met a petrolhead who felt guilt from gunning their vehicles.

The Perfect City Runaround Car

To keep the MINI Electric's weight down, and also because there isn't all that much space for too many battery packs, the car's 32.64 kWh battery pack is actually on the smaller side. While many gripe about how that translates to lower range, it is important to point out that with its small battery pack, the MINI Electric also charges quickly, and would take only 30-40 mins to fully charge via a standard 60 kW DC Charger. Comparatively, just a 60kWh EV would take about double the time to fully charge via the same 60 kW charger.

Theoretically, if you're the sort that darts around town multiple times a day for various meetings, you could quite easily charge up the MINI Electric over the span of just one quick meeting. Add on the fact that the car is light for an EV, and occupies a tiny foot print, makes the MINI Electric an extremely easy car to use around built-up cities.

Who Will it Appeal to?

Due to the enduring stylishness of the MINI design DNA, the MINI Electric will definitely appeal to discerning, artistic types who want an EV but don't want to deal with the mainstream designs of mass market brands. Overall, the car suits people who travel a lot within a small sector of the city multiple times a day, which is a use case that brings out the best in the MINI Electric.
