BYD has capped off a good year with the launch of the BYD Seal at Changi Exhibition Centre, and is the second car in its “Ocean” series, after the Dolphin. Its sport and sleek silhouette is complemented by innovative features ranging from Cell-to-Body Technology that integrates the blade battery to the vehicle structure, to the iTAC (Intelligent Torque Adaption Control) that dynamically adjusts power distribution and torque output to the wheels, a feature that is well utilised in the dual motor AWD performance variant of the car.
The Seal was launched with three variants in Singapore, the lowest range being the Dynamic, with a 61.5kWh battery with 203 hp and 310 Nm of torque and 460 km of range. The middle Premium model has a larger battery with 82.5kWh battery with 310 hp and 360 Nm of torque. The Performance “3.8s'' trim retains the same battery as the Premium, but now has AWD with power boosted to 530 hp and 670 Nm of torque, propelling drivers from 0-100 km/h in 3.8s, with the range topping out at around 570 km.
Launched at the Changi Exhibition Centre in tandem with a specially curated media driving experience, participants got the opportunity to test out all three variants of the BYD Seal in various settings. These included a slalom course, an acceleration and braking test, as well as a handling course which was made to test the limits of the Seal's performance on tight corners and sweeping bends. Hopping between the different variants back-to-back allowed us to fully experience and appreciate the technology that was put into the Seal. Through this driving experience, the BYD Seal delivered dynamic performance and handling.
The BYD Seal hits the Singapore market with a launch price of $238,888 for the Dynamic, $248,888 for the Premium, and $280,888 for the AWD performance variant.
